The ECura project team plans to establish an open-access multilingual parallel corpus. As part of this initiative, the team is collecting, editing, and translating the texts and audio recordings of Miao guge (ancient songs) to lay the foundation for the corpus. This initial work includes gathering and recording melodies, as well as translating the Miao script found in guge into Chinese and English, ensuring that these oral traditions can be more widely understood and studied in a multilingual context. Currently, the performances, texts, and recordings of guge are primarily documented by Xuede Li, a city-level inheritor of Miao guge. Over years of cultural transmission, he has accumulated extensive experience in performing and preserving guge texts, providing valuable data for the construction of the corpus.
ECura will share the initial results of this work and will provide continuous updates.
